DataTorrent announced today its Board of Directors unanimously appointed Guy Churchward as President and Chief Executive Officer effective February 2017. Phu Hoang, the current CEO and DataTorrent co-founder will remain with the company, reporting to the new CEO and continuing to serve on the company’s Board of Directors.
“We are ecstatic to have Guy join DataTorrent as its Chief Executive Officer,” said David Hornik of August Capital. “DataTorrent is a pioneer in real time streaming ingestion and analytics. Over the past eighteen months we’ve seen high profile multinational enterprises deploy DataTorrent’s solution in 24×7 mission critical applications with tremendous success. Guy’s background and track record of scaling businesses is the perfect fit for DataTorrent moving forward. His ability to set the vision, create a powerful product roadmap and both recruit and build a team is exceptional.”
Guy Churchward is joining DataTorrent from Dell EMC where he serves as President of their Core Technologies Division, responsible for redefining the modern data center with a comprehensive portfolio of core storage and data protection solutions. Prior to joining EMC, Churchward was President and CEO of LogLogic, an enterprise log and security intelligence platform company. He has also served as Vice President and General Manager of the Data Protection Group at NetApp and Vice President and General Manager of BEA’s WebLogic Products Group. In addition, Churchward has held senior management positions at Sun Microsystems (formerly Tarantella Inc.), The Santa Cruz Operation (formerly IXI), Accenture (formerly Binder Hamlyn) and Olivetti.
“We were fortunate that Howard Fischer Associates introduced me to Guy and I was amazed how aligned our thinking was around the value of Open Source and the importance of continuing to bolster Apache Apex, the open source technology underlying DataTorrent’s commercial solutions,” said Phu Hoang, DataTorrent’s co-founder. “He already has a deep understanding of our technology and how our customers can quickly and simply accrue tremendous value through its use. Guy is a welcome addition to DataTorrent who will help us refine our market leading solution, scale our business and set the strategy for our next chapter.”
“I’m sincerely honored to be part of the DataTorrent team,” said Guy Churchward. “It’s rare you get the opportunity to help shape a fundamental market transformation such as the current desire to harness streaming data in real-time. Every enterprise is focused on creating knowledge from data as it’s created — DataTorrent is uniquely poised to deliver that knowledge to its customers. With a world-class technical team and a maniacal customer focus, DataTorrent’s extraordinary value is already evidenced by their ‘blue chip’ customer list.”
“From the outset I’ve been very impressed by Phu and his team,” continued Churchward. “The fact the founders spearheaded the effort to augment the management team with the skills and experience needed to scale the business demonstrates their passion and commitment to its success. I was struck by this unusual sign of maturity; proving to be one more reason I want to be part of this exceptional DataTorrent team.”
